How to Increase Wifi Speed? -this is the biggest question of many people who use a wifi connection. Many of you guys have a good internet connection. But when you use your internet for meetings, streaming, gaming, browsing, or doing school works you don’t get good internet speed or stability from your wireless router.
You might be getting higher ping, or getting a bad meeting, streaming, browsing experience. This is usually due to the bad internet connection, but not every time. If your internet connection is good enough but still the speed you get is bad then it happens only for your router. But following some steps, you can increase your wifi speed and router performance.
Today in this tutorial I will show you, how you can Increase Wifi Speed in 8 simple ways. Also by following these 8 steps you can optimize your router for much better performance. So without wasting any time let’s begin.
Check your Internet speed and Stability
Before doing all the necessary steps let’s first check our internet connection speed and stability whether it is good or bad. For this, follow the methods.
Testing Internet speed
Connect your PC or Laptop to your Modem/Media Converter (MC)/ONU/ONT via a LAN Cable (It is recommended): After connecting your PC/Laptop via LAN you need to test your Internet speed. for that, you can use some websites down below that measure internet speed.
[NOTE: YOU NEED TO PUT YOUR INTERNET IP / ISP DETAILS ON YOUR PC/LAPTOP TO ACCESS THE INTERNET]
You can use your smartphone to test wifi speed but it is not recommended if your router doesn’t work properly.
Testing Internet Stability
Via PC or Laptop: If your Internet speed is good, now check Internet Stability. For that open command prompt (CMD) on your Windows computer and type ping (your default gateway) -t :for example, ping 10.13.208.1 -t (Use LAN Connection to do the test)
For MAC users, go to “Network Utility > Ping > Type the IP and hit on Ping button“.
Via Wireless Router: If you don’t have any PC or Laptop then you can use your Router setting to measure the Stability. For that login to your router and go to system tools > Diagnostics. Now put the IP and make a test.
Via Android: You can use any Android application down below to test ping. connect to your router via wifi. Next just open the app and put the IP. and see the result. (But it is not recommended if your router doesn’t work properly)
App Link: Click Here
RESULT: Now check whether the ping result shows any Request time out (RTO) or not. If it doesn’t show RTO then your internet is working fine. (Use LAN Connection to do the test)
YOU CAN FIND YOUR DEFAULT GATEWAY IP FROM YOUR STATIC IP INTERNET CONFIGURATION. IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE DEFAULT GATEWAY IP, THEN YOU CAN PING ANY DOMAIN OR IP LIKE GOOGLE.COM OR 18.104.22.168.
IF YOU USING THE DEFAULT GATEWAY IP THEN THE TIME SHOULD REMAIN UNDER 0MS TO 15MS. AND IF YOU USING A DOMAIN OR OTHER IP THEN THE TIME SHOULD REMAIN UNDER 30MS TO 60MS.
Check your router is working properly or not
If your Internet speed and stability are good enough but you still getting bad internet speed via wifi then you need to check your router. For that, you need to do a ping test of your router’s IP. The IP you used to configure your router is your router’s IP. for example 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
You can use a PC, Laptop, Android, or IOS to do the test. for that connect your device to your wifi, then open CMD and type ping 192.168.1.1 -t (*use your router IP). On Android, you can use any ping test app to do the test. And for IOS you can use Download the free App called Network Ping Lite from the App Store, following this link: Network Ping Lite. or you can use any ping test android app to test ping
If you getting test timing of more than 15ms or RTO the try to reset or replace your router. A dual-band router suggests you to getting good speed and stability.

Check your router position
If you getting bad range or low speed, then check your router position. If your router is not placed in a good position then you can’t get a good signal or speed. Make sure your router is placed in an open area. It helps you to give you better signal which helps to Increase Wifi Speed. Avoid aquarium, microwave, or metal surface or wall, it blocks wifi signal. You should also keep your router away from hot places like direct sunlight, heater.
Use Higher frequency band
Nowadays, Internet speeds are getting so fast, and every single device now works on wifi, like every smartphone, TV, PC, laptop, bulb, and many more. And if you still using a single band router or 2.4GHz frequency to manage all the speed and device then your router won’t able to run perfectly.
That’s why I’m suggesting you to upgrade to a dual-band or WiFi 6 router. It is highly recommended. Dual-band routers are getting cheaper now. And make sure to use the 5GHz band if your device supports it
5Ghz band definitely helps you to Increase Wifi Speed. The 5GHz band will get you a faster connection to the internet, though it has a shorter range than 2.4 GHz. We suggest leaving both frequencies enabled since older devices will often work only on 2.4 GHz.
Change your Wi-Fi frequency channel
The wifi channel is a path, from where data packets travel. If you have so much wifi or your neighbor have then your wifi path/channel is congestion like a traffic jam. So you have to use a better channel instead of auto. This method is the most important method to Increase Wifi Speed. You can use the WiFiman app to analyze which channel is used by others.
Basically, you can use channel 1, 6, or 11 for a 2.4Ghz frequency. These channels are non-overlapping channels. And for 5Ghz you can leave your setting as Auto.
To change your wifi channel, Login to your router. Goto Wireless setting and set the channel as you want. *Bonus: Enable Airtime fairness or Anti-interference if available.
Increase Wifi Speed by Making additional changes in router’s setting
To Increase Wifi Speed, You can make some additional changes to your router to getting maximized performance from your router. For that login to your router.
1. Use custom DNS in DHCP Server.
2. Set WAN Speed. (Use the maximum value your router supports)
3. Enable Multi-User MIMO and Beamforming. It helps you for better signal and data management.
4. Use Higher Channel Width (If other wifi using Higher Channel Width then suggest you to use ‘Auto mode’. Check using WiFiMan app)
Reboot the router to Increase Wifi Speed
If you run multiple devices on one router, the router’s RAM will be full and became slow. so suggesting you to disconnect unused devices. Or use a high-end router to run so many devices at a time.
You are also advised to reboot your router once a day by going to the router settings. This will delete the temporary files stored on your router, and your router’s RAM and CPU will be free and it helps you to Increase Wifi Speed.
Update your router firmware
Since you’ve already logged in to your router’s interface to check your Wi-Fi channel from step five, you might as well check to see if there are any available firmware updates. Updating your router keeps it as secure as possible and up to date with the latest software fixes for known problems. For that go to router’s system setting > Firmware Update.
**Bonus tip: f you have high-priority devices like the main PC, gaming console, or smart TV, it might be worth your while to plug them into your router with an Ethernet cable instead of relying on Wi-Fi.
These 8 methods definitely help you to Increase Wifi Speed and optimizing your wireless router. if you want to Increase Wifi Speed more than your internet plan, then I would recommend you to upgrade your current internet plan to a higher internet plan to Increase Wifi Speed.
